Why is it quiet when it snows?

Have you ever wondered why it’s so silent and peaceful when fresh snow is falling? Why is it so noisy when that snow turns to ice? Well, snow has a few physical properties that make it a really good insulator against sound, essentially making it nature’s acoustic foam!
